The Wait Is Over. Sam Darnold Is Getting Traded to the Carolina Panthers

Sam Darnold is headed to Carolina.

Sash

A huge domino just fell in the QB carousel. After months of speculation, Sam Darnold is going to the Carolina Panthers. The trade compensation isn't great, but the Jets had to move Darnold before the draft. I'm sure the Jets were looking for a bigger trade package, but it's not the worst trade compensation for a guy that still needs to prove he's a good player. All fingers point to Zach Wilson becoming the new QB for the Jets next season.

Darnold was probably in the worst situation in the NFL. Adam Gase was the worst head coach/offensive coordinator in the NFL, and the Jets surrounded him with literal garbage on offense. A change of scenery was much needed and he lands in a great situation.

Darnold is now paired with Joe Brady, who's become the new offensive mastermind. Brady is obviously known for helping Joe Burrow break out his senior year at LSU. In an offense that already has Christian McCaffery, DJ Moore, and Robby Anderson, Darnold is going to have his best supporting cast since he's entered the league. The Panthers also hold the 8th overall pick where one of the big three receivers or Kyle Pitts will most likely be available. They can also use the pick to take one of the top offensive linemen.

For the Jets, they didn't get the compensation they wanted. With Wilson coming to town, they needed to get rid of Darnold. It seems like the Jets are headed in the right direction with Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas. They can't make the same mistake the previous regime did with Darnold. They need to immediately build around Wilson. If they fail to do that, they will be back in the same situation. The Jets will have 21 draft picks in the next two drafts.

This is a win for both sides. Also, the Panthers social media team gets a big W for this post.
