5 Takeaways from Week 1 of the NFL

Massive takeaways from week 1 of the NFL season.

Sash

After a long, dreadful summer and winter, we finally made it to Week 1 of the NFL season. It was nice to get some normalcy back in our life considering the past few months have been equivalent to a terrible natural disaster movie.

Below are 5 HUGE takeaways from Week 1.

1. JON GRUDEN'S HAIR

No player or coach took a worse L this week like Jon Gruden did. Although the Raiders started their new season and the Las Vegas era with a win, CBS did Gruden dirty. For the most part, we only see coaches wear hats so it's hard to see what they're working with. Gruden from now on has two choices. Embrace it and come home to the bald community or permanently wear a hat wherever he goes. I understand because we would all go bald after dealing with the stress that comes with coaching the Raiders and having to deal with this guy every day.

Mark Davis, Owner of Las Vegas Raiders

2. BATTLE OF THE GRANDPA'S

Tom Brady's debut for the Bucs fell short. The Bucs looked like they need more time to gain chemistry as the whole team did not seem like they were on the same page. I'm not too worried about the Bucs because Brady looks like he can still sling the ball despite a few bad interceptions. Bucs fans thought they put the pick sixes behind them but they were sadly mistaken.

Jamies was on the Saints sideline thinking "You cut me for this shit?"

Regardless, I think the Bucs will be fine. I think we should be more worried about Drew Brees considering he can't throw the ball for more than 20 yards. He only averaged 5.3 yards per attempt which is well below the league average. The Saints have a very talented roster but is Brees' inability to pressure the defense downfield be the achilles heel of this team?

3. JALEN RAMSEY WINS ACADEMY AWARD FOR BEST ACTOR

Of course the Sunday night game between the Cowboys and Rams ended in a controversy. Late in the 4th quarter, Dak Prescott was able to connect with Michael Gallup on a big gain which would've set up a game-tying field goal to bring it to overtime. The play was called back for an OPI and all I have to say is Jalen Ramsey sold the shit out of it.

To me, that looks clean. Both players were hand fighting the whole way through until Ramsey flung his arms like Gallup attacked him. Bravo to Ramsey for selling it. Seems like he's using that new money to pay for acting classes in LA. I don't think the refs should throw the flag in that situation but as we all know, when the Cowboys lose, America wins.

4. RANDY BULLOCK FAKES INJURY TO SAVE HIMSELF FROM EMBARRASSMENT

Joe Burrow had an impressive rookie debut. Obviously, he had his lows but overall you can tell Burrow has "IT" to be great in the league. With the game on the line, Randy Bullock trotted out onto the field to kick the game tying field goal.

Nothing better than a good old faking an injury after letting your team and millions of fans down. Ok, maybe thousands for the Bengals but you get the point. My favorite part about Randy Bullock is his appearance. Yes, folks, this is a NFL player that gets paid millions of dollars.

Nothing better than a chubby kicker. One day I'll rank my Top 5 chubby kickers in NFL history.

5. RON RIVERA IS ONE TOUGH MF'ER

For my last takeaway, I'm not going to go after anyone but just wanted to acknowledge how badass Ron Rivera is. The Washington Football Team pulled off a stunner when they beat the Eagles this week. Rivera, who's currently battling squamous cell carcinoma got an IV at halftime so he can continue coaching.

Hopefully Rivera can continue coaching and kick this disease's ass. We're all rooting for you Riverboat Ron.

Great Week 1 for the NFL. Catch you next week as I give you the BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS.
