It Looks Like Ben Roethlisberger Is Coming Back for His 18th Season

Will this be the final year for Big Ben?

Sash

Something tells me this is going to end up in a disaster.

The Steelers are in a weird position. We all saw their collapse last year. Their defense was good enough to cover up some of their offensive deficiencies. Once the injuries started to pile up, we started to see more and more of Big Ben aging.

This reminds me of how the Giants treated Eli Manning in his last few years. The only difference is Eli's teams were terrible. At least the Steelers have talent on their team. When you have a legend who refuses to retire, it's hard to let him go. Also, with where the Steelers are in the draft, it's tough to draft your next franchise QB.

The next thing is Roethlisberger's cap hit. He's set to make $41 million. As Art Rooney said in his statement, they're expected to restructure his contract. It will be interesting to see how big of a pay cut Big Ben is willing to take.

I don't think this is going to end well, but it will be a nice farewell tour for Big Ben. I can't see the Steelers succeeding with him at QB. But hey, when a guy brings you two Super Bowls (eh, more like one because he was terrible in the first one he played) he gets to do whatever he wants.
