Gina Carano Fired From 'The Mandalorian' After Tweets

Another fan favorite gone because they can't stop tweeting idiotic things

Eddie

The hardest part about falling in love with a TV show is knowing it could go array at any given moment. Budget cuts, cancellations, and recasts are looming after each season is released. Even worse, the show can experience a steep and sudden decline in quality (looking at you Thrones), but it’s best to keep memories like that suppressed. My new favorite show, The Mandalorian, unfortunately had some bad news this morning. Gina Carano who plays Cara Dune in the show was fired for some tweets.

The first couple tweets I saw weren't that bad. I was furious at her firing. Then I saw her essentially mocking the trans community and comparing her millionaire lifestyle to Jews in 1940s Germany and it all clicked. Were these horrible things to say? Of course. Is she an absolute moron for putting these statements on her personal twitter account? Obviously. Is this enough to be fired over? I mean, in my opinion no. Plenty of actors are terrible human beings, but I don’t care about who they are, I care about their on screen performances. Amber Heard is literally a domestic abuser and she's still getting roles. Tom Cruise is the figurehead of the biggest cult in the world. Russell Crowe has multiple assault charges and allegedly punched people out on set of Gladiator. Tim Allen used to smuggle cocaine across international borders. The list goes on and on.

I just hate how modern media gets affected by external factors. Now I need to pretend that Cara Dune’s disappearance or recasting in season 3 of The Mandalorian is perfectly fine. But it's not and it never will be. A movie or show’s entire purpose is to entertain you via immersion. If my immersion is ruined, it will be much harder to entertain me.

Tenor

Perhaps I care more about my media consumption than I do about the evil doings of the actors giving the performances. To be honest, I have no intention of changing. She committed no crimes, at the very least let her come back to set just to kill her off. We as a society are taking the words of an MMA fighter turned F list actress too seriously. I can’t believe anyone actually cares what she has to say.

I hope my other favorite actors learn their lesson from this. Don’t say anything in any sort of public setting or you will be canceled. Unless of course you are too big to be canceled, in which case do whatever you please.
