Tony LaRussa Charged With DUI

Tony LaRussa was charged with a DUI the day before the White Sox hired him.

When the White Sox made LaRussa their next manager, many people had doubts. How was a 76-year-old manager going to connect with a young team? Is he caught up in the analytical world that has taken over baseball?

Well, not even two weeks have passed and we already have some controversy. According to ESPN, LaRussa was arrested in February for a DUI.

"On Feb. 24 at 11:40 p.m., a peace officer responded to a call and found La Russa standing alongside his SUV, according to an affidavit filed by the Arizona Department of Public Safety. La Russa told the officer, who had detected a "light odor of alcoholic beverage," that he had been at a dinner with friends from the Los Angeles Angels, for whom he was working as a special advisor. La Russa was stopped near the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, and he told the officer he had hit something and had a tire blow out, according to the affidavit. After a field sobriety test, La Russa was taken into custody. In the affidavit, the peace officer described him as 'argumentative.'" - Jeff Passan,ESPN

No, the White Sox aren't going to fire LaRussa. They knew about this before hiring him, which makes me question why Jerry Reinsdorf is still making big decisions for the organization.

This was a franchise-changing offseason for the White Sox. Their young talent showed what they are capable of doing. It's going to be interesting to see how the team responds to this. This is also a free agent market that is loaded with solid starting pitching, something the White Sox need desperately behind their ace Lucas Giolito.

With that being said, it seems like the White Sox are already out on Marcus Stroman...

If I were the White Sox, I would gladly kick LaRussa to the curb. First of all, he's 76!!! Why would you pair your young team with someone that is supposed to manage for multiple years, maybe less? Start over and find someone that can grow with your team. If this is how Stroman views the White Sox as a free agent destination, what are other players going to think? Let him go and get rid of this PR disaster. It's baffling to me that they knew about this. Reinsdorf's ego is way too big to admit a mistake.

I'm sorry White Sox fans. You guys finally built a team to contend, but it's going to be derailed by Reinsdorf and LaRussa. I'm sure Rob Manfred is too much of a pussy to do anything.
