Urban Meyer Is Going Back To the Sunshine State

Urban Meyer agrees to become the next head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Sash

It's been rumored for weeks, but it seems like it's finally going down. College football legend Urban Meyer is finalizing a deal with the Jaguars to become their next head coach.

This hire, combined with the chance to draft Trevor Lawrence, has Jags fans rock hard. Meyer obviously knows the fan base well, coaching down the road at the University of Florida all those years ago.

I don't like the hire. Meyer's best trait as a college coach was being a recruiter. In the NFL, recruiting takes you nowhere. I don't think Meyer will succeed unless he puts great coaches around him. If he doesn't, he'll be out of the league very quickly.

Even though I don't like the hire, I do think he can succeed. At the end of the day, this guy has won everywhere he's gone. He knows how to build a culture, and again, he WINS. He can't treat pro athletes like college kids, but Urban Meyer is a smart enough guy to know that.

Would I be surprised if Urban Meyer quits after two years to take a college job? No. Urban Meyer is a wildcard. After he left Ohio State, he said he was done with coaching. He even said he was done after leaving Florida because of health issues. It appears every time the health issues go away he's back on the sidelines. It will be interesting how Urban transforms from college campus god to rookie NFL head coach.
