Predicted winners for UFC on ESPN+ 37

Shawn Craymen

Another Saturday, another night of solid fights on ESPN. This week we have some former contenders looking to get a good win and assert themselves in their division’s rankings.

1.Ben Rothwell def. Marcin Tybura

This isn’t the most exciting match up out there, it’s actually probably the least exciting matchup out there. But it’s a pretty predictable outcome with both fighters looking to extend their win streaks to three and be legitimate top 15 contenders in the heavyweight division. It may seem like forever ago that Ben was an unlikely top 5 fighter on a win streak that included finishing Josh Barnett and Alistair Overeem but Barnett has the skills to return to his former glory. It won’t be a pretty win, expect a lot of wall and stalling, cage clinching, and labored striking from both sides. Tybura is a tough fighter but Ben is better all around, expect a decisive decision win for Ben Rothwell where you’ll be sleeping midway through the second round.

P.S. Wonder if Rothwell will do a funny dance again.

Rothwell - -155

2. Edson Barboza def. Makwan Amirkhani

This is the fight where Barboza gets back in the win column. After a dubious loss to Paul Felder and an even more dubious loss to Dan Ige, the former top 5 contender is going to get the win he deserves. One of the most entertaining strikers in UFC history, Barboza is the perfect foil to Amirkhani. Amirkhani is mostly a submission specialist and Barboza has proven to be near impossible to take down outside of his fights against Khabib and Kevin Lee. Expect Makwan to relentlessly shoot for takedowns, tire himself out, and Barboza to get a signature highlight reel finish.

3. Marlon Moraes def. Cory Sandhagen

Wow. I mean wowwwww. Cory Sandhagen is the betting favorite over Marlon Magic Moraes? Moraes took one loss against Henry Cejudo (quietly a top 5 fighter in UFC history) and people forgot who he was. Must we forget when he hit the off button on Aljamain Sterling?

How about when he ended Jimmie Rivera? Cory Sandhagen is a great fighter but I do not have any faith in Cory winning. Smash the win button on Moraes

Moraes - +120
