The Harlem Globetrotters are trying to become the NBA's newest franchise

With the NBA considering expansion, The Harlem Globetrotters give their pitch.

Stephen A. Bayless

At first, I laughed at this thinking it would never happen. The more I think of it, it's a no-brainer.

It's been reported several times that the NBA is trying to expand soon. Why not have one of the teams be one that already exists? Every basketball fan has been to a Harlem Globetrotter game as a kid. We all watched the Globetrotters dummy the Washington Generals as they did fun moves and entertain the crowd. Everyone knows the brand, so why not bring the Globetrotters to the biggest stage in basketball?

If the NBA does consider the Globetrotters as their newest team, I don't think they'll stay in New York. They already have the Knicks and Nets, so the Globetrotters will most likely have to move to a new market. The Las Vegas Globetrotters? Tampa Globetrotters? Montreal Globetrotters? It won't be Seattle because if the NBA brings basketball to the Pacific Northwest, the only option is the Sonics. I think the best spot is Vegas. The Globetrotters put on a show like no other in basketball, so I think it fits perfectly with what Vegas is all about.

One of the oldest teams in basketball is taking their swing with the NBA. Imagine the best players in the world playing for the god damn Harlem Globetrotters? I need to see one of the young superstars rock this jersey.
