Takeaways from the 2021 NFL Draft

The 2021 NFL Draft definitely lived up to the hype. The draft being back with fans in the crowd was awesome. Seeing grown men dress up in ridiculous costumes supporting their squad never gets old. It's like comic-con, but for nerdy football fans.

We had five quarterbacks taken in the top-15, multiple trades, and some all-time reactions. Here are some takeaways from the 2021 NFL Draft.

FIVE QUARTERBACKS TAKEN IN THE TOP 15

We all knew five quarterbacks were going to go in the first round but didn't quite know how they were going to fall into place. The only definite answers we knew were what the Jags and Jets were going to do. After Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson went one and two, we didn't know what the 49ers were going to do. Was it going to be Alabama QB Mac Jones or the North Dakota State product Trey Lance? The 49ers put together a great smokescreen and ended up going with the FCS product with a huge upside.

After Lance went, Fields and Jones slid down the draft. That's until Dave Gettleman did the unthinkable. He traded back because the Eagles and Cowboys decided to turn on the Giants. We'll get into that later. Chicago ended up trading up to 11.

With the pick, the Bears took Justin Fields. So Nagy and Pace make another gamble to trade up for a QB. We all know what happened last time they made a bold decision like this...

Alright, that's a cheap shot. Happy for Bears fans who get an awesome talent like Fields. They haven't had the best of luck when it comes to quarterback.

Finally, Mac Jones fell all the way to 15. New England got their guy. They're hoping another pudgy white dude can lead them back to winning Super Bowls.

Is this the start to a 20-year dynasty? God damn. The league might have fucked up giving Belichick a top-15 QB.

NFC EAST TRADES

Very rarely do you see teams in the same division trade with each other. Well, the Eagles and Cowboys went dancing last night when the Eagles moved up to 10 to take Heisman winner, Devonta Smith. It was obvious the Giants were targeting one of the Alabama receivers. With Waddle going to Miami at six, it left Smith as the prized possession for teams looking for a playmaker.

The Giants made out ok though. As I said, the Bears ended up trading up to 11 and the Giants got good value. They ended up taking speedy and explosive wide receiver Kadarius Toney out of Florida. Many had Toney as the 4th best receiver in this class.

A big-time playmaker that's joining an offense that already has Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay, Darius Slayton, and Sterling Shepard. It was just stunning to see Dave Gettleman finally trading back. He has never done so in his career as a GM.

DRAFT DAY REACTIONS

One of the best parts of the draft is seeing the reaction of players getting picked. Some are emotional and some are flat-out funny. My favorite reaction was Jaylen Waddle completely ghosting everyone in the green room when he got selected.

He said peace, I'm in the league now. It's time for me to find some new friends.

Another great moment was Kwity Paye telling his mom she's retired during his draft interview.

Kwity Paye has a background story. Telling his mom that she doesn't have to work anymore is what this is all about.
